Befriending the Body

This time last week I sat soaking in the latest on trauma therapy and how traumatic stress is reflected in our nervous systems.

Dr Bessel van der Kolk presented his research covering therapies such as EMDR, Neurofeedback, Massage, Yoga, Qigong & Theatre. What all of these therapies have in common is movement – moving the mind and body into new rhythms of awareness.
A key take away is that there is no single curing modality.Ā However, being ‘in touch’ and aware of one’s body is crucial to the ‘sense of self’ that allows us to be functional and feel safe in our worlds and in our bodies.

“People need to become aware of their sensations and the way that their bodies interact with the world around them.”

Body awareness is what has drawn me to the modalities that I’ve been exploring for the best part of my life and sharing for the last 3 years and I want to share these techniques with you.
