Calligraphy Health Qigong

Four Week Immersion at Union Street Yoga & Wellbeing

Dates: Saturdays 10:30 – 11:45am 18th May to 8th June 2019

Join me for an immersion in Master Yang’s Calligraphy Health System.

This flowing, three-dimensional practice is for anyone looking to enhance their wellbeing through the beautiful Chinese art of cultivating energy. Over four 75 minute sessions you will learn how to open up your body to increase mobility and energy flow.

These sessions are open to everyone, beginners & seasoned practitioners alike as we play with the energy of autonomous; free movement.

Qigong, which translates as energy work is a powerful tool for self-healing and self-regulation. Through deep, internal exploration and observation the mind quietens and the body begins to open up and soften. The benefits of qigong are instantaneous and endless. In this teeny tiny immersion you will get a taste of this beautiful moving meditation; a skill that has passed through generations and now to you.

Workshop Overview

Session 1: Connect with Your Energy Centre

In the first session we focus on connecting with the DanTien, the body-brain, through deep belly breathing and DanTien rolling. You will start to build energy and move through basic postures and movements linking the Calligraphy principle of fluid, connected movement.

Session 2: Mobility & Body Scanning

The second session continues linking the DanTien (energy centre) to movement with an emphasis on articulating movement joint by joint through the body to connect with, and stimulate all cells in the body. Deep observation of the body allows you to find your comfortable & full range of mobility through all joints and tissues while working gently to remove physical blockages in the form of stiffness, tightness and injury. Deep focus and concentration through movement guides relief from emotional and mental stressors too.

Session 3: Emotive Exploration

This session encourages creativity and expression. Through embodying movements and actions of various animals we will explore our emotive capacity to tune in to the body and visit a range of sensations with intention.  Through animal mimicry we can release stored emotions (the good and the bad!). By introducing ourselves to new postures and movements we build and promote our own sense of joy, confidence and freedom.

Session 4: Feeling Energy – Free Movement

In this final session we link everything together and explore the electromagnetic field of our bodies and begin to move freely from the heart – pure joy and expression!

I’ll leave you with an inspiring quote that sums up the intention of the workshop. Looking forward to seeing you in class!

Water is fluid, soft, and yielding. But water will wear away rock, which is rigid and cannot yield. As a rule, whatever is fluid, soft, and yielding will overcome whatever is rigid and hard. This is another paradox: what is soft is strong.” – Lao Tzu
